In Moscow all six Yabloko candidates for municipal deputies in the Kurkino district may be removed from the race. Two self-nominated candidates filed lawsuits in the Tushinsky District Court in Moscow against the electoral commission that registered Yabloko’s candidates.
The identical complaints to court for each Yabloko candidate indicate an alleged violation in the protocol of the conference of the Moscow branch of Yabloko that nominated the candidates. The Moscow Yabloko electoral headquarters say that the documents were drawn up in accordance with the law, and the initiative to remove Yabloko from the Moscow elections is political in nature.
“I think they want to distract us from the campaign, and the reason is that our team has every chance of winning,” Kirill Goncharov, Deputy Chairman of Moscow branch of Yabloko, comments.
The court hearing on removing Yabloko from the elections will be held on Friday, 23 August.
It should be noted that the Moscow branch of Yabloko nominated seven candidates for the snap municipal elections in the Moscow district of Kurkino. The electoral commission registered six candidates. All Yabloko candidates are conducting their campaigns in different Russian regions under the slogan “For Peace and Freedom! For the Ceasefire Agreement!”.
