The European Court of Human Rights ruled that the Russian Federation violated the rights of Gulnaz Ravilova when considering her administrative violation case. The decision was published today.
The ECHR found that the following articles of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights were violated in relation to Ravilova: Article 10 – freedom of expression, Article 11 – freedom of assembly and association.
It should be noted that in 2019, the Vakhitovsky District Magistrate Court in Kazan, Tatarstan, found Ravilova guilty under Article 20.33 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (participation in the activities of an “undesirable” organisation) and fined her 10,000 roubles. The case materials ran that Gulnaz held a single picket with a poster that was made “in a colour scheme characteristic of an undesirable organisation”.
On 16 September, 2022, Russia finally ceased to be a party to the European Convention on Human Rights.
