Yabloko to host a round table “Traditional Values and Women’s Rights”
Press Release, 20.11.2023
On 6 December Yabloko will host a round table “Traditional Values and Women’s Rights”. The ideology of traditional values (of the patriarchal structure) promoted by the state is inextricably linked with the restriction of women’s rights, which contradicts modernisation, human rights and freedoms, as well as the principles of gender equality enshrined in the Constitution.
Restrictions on women’s rights are manifested in the following:
– consistent restrictions on the right to terminate pregnancy;
– absence of legislative restrictions and effective measures to combat domestic violence;
– promotion of the dismissal of the need of higher education for women, “returning women to families”;
– brutal persecution of women-activists;
– a ban on non-heterosexual activity and much more.
The round table will be attended by activists of the Yabloko Gender Faction from different cities and experts. The anchor will be Galina Mikhaleva, Chair of the Yabloko Gender Faction and professor of the Russian State University for the Humanities.
The round table will be held at the office of the Yabloko party (Moscow, Pyatnitskaya 31, building 2) on 6 December, at 18:00. Registration is required for in-person participation; the number of places is limited.
Zoom with other cities and streaming on YouTube will be arranged.
