More than 5,500 people have already signed a petition against the construction of a landfill near city of Shuya and the village of Kitovo. Now the process of coordination and approval of the project “Complex facility, including processing, recycling and disposal of waste” is underway at the address: Ivanovo region, Shuisky district, near the village of Kitovo. The construction of a landfill near densely populated areas is a gross violation of human rights, environmental and living standards.
The Ivanovo branch of Yabloko and civil activists believe that it is not too late to reconsider the location of the planned landfill and find a more remote location that will not directly threaten a large number of people with environmental consequences. Everyone has the right to a favorable environment.
The regional Yabloko office is preparing an appeal to the Environmental Public Prosecutor’s Office, believing that the placement of such facilities is possible only after public hearings and approval from all responsible departments.
Yabloko advocates a European approach to waste collection and recycling, considering it an example to follow:
– organic food waste is collected separately;
– special containers for plastic, different packaging and PVC bags;
– containers for paper and cardboard waste;
– special containers for glass;
– old clothes are donated to charities.
“The problem of environmental pollution would be solved quite simply if all countries and each of their residents were interested in this. However, we are still far from full understanding of our own problems,” the activists of the Ivanovo branch of Yabloko say.
