Commentary by Grigory Yavlinsky’s Press Secretary, Igor Yakovlev, on the participation of a Yabloko candidate in the 2024 presidential elections:
— The position of Grigory Yavlinsky is well known. He is categorically against the special military operation and for an immediate ceasefire. Yavlinsky believes that the main thing is human life, freedom, real democracy and an effective modern economy. It was with these programme goals that Yavlinsky participated in the presidential elections three times and came third in the presidential elections in 2000.
As for different speculations in the press and Telegram channels.
First. There are no and there have been no negotiations between the Presidential Administration and Grigory Yavlinsky regarding the 2024 presidential elections.
Second. Grigory Yavlinsky believes that the current situation in the country is such that the initiative to nominate a presidential candidate should come from people, the nation and voters.
Third. Grigory Yavlinsky has repeatedly publicly reiterated (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0t84AKAK7u4&t=2810s ) that he will consider the possibility of being nominated as a candidate for the presidential election, provided that at least 10 million signatures are collected for his nomination. This refers to the collection of signatures directly by citizens and on their initiative.
After this, the Yabloko party will decide on participation or non-participation in the presidential elections.
