On the night of June 21-22, members of the Yabloko party traditionally gathered on Poklonnaya Hill in Moscow to lay flowers at the 1941 memorial plaque in Victory Park and light candles in memory of the victims of the Second World War.
The annual mourning event was attended by Yabloko Chairman Nikolai Rybakov, Grigory Yavlinsky, Chairman of the Yabloko Federal Political Committee, Ivan Bolshakov, Deputy Chairman of Yabloko, Sergei Mitrokhin and Alexander Gnezdilov, members of the Federal Political Committee, Maxim Kruglov, head of the Yabloko faction in the Moscow City Duma, Galina Mikhaleva, Chair of the Yabloko Gender Faction, Kirill Goncharov, Deputy Chairman of the Moscow branch of Yabloko, as well as activists and supporters of the party.
“The 22nd of June is a terrible sad date, as 81 years ago the war began. Today this date has become an open bleeding wound and our common immense responsibility,” Grigory Yavlinsky said.
After laying flowers and lighting candles, there was a minute of silence. Yabloko has been conducting the action “1418 candles per each day of the war” on Poklonnaya Hill in Moscow since 2007.
