In Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, a criminal case was filed against Vladimir Yefimov, a journalist and Chairman of the Kamchatka branch of Yabloko, under Article 280.3 Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Public actions aimed at discrediting the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation”). A search was carried out in Yefimov’s home, and Yefimov was placed in the detention facility.
Earlier, Vladimir Yefimov had been already fined 30,000 roubles twice in administrative cases on “discrediting the army”.
In 1989, Vladimir Yefimov became one of the organisers of the first in the USSR non-state independent television company TVK and was its Editor-in-Chief for 18 years. In January 2021, he received the highest award of the regional branch of the Union of Journalists of Russia “Journalistic Glory of Kamchatka”.
The leader of the Kamchatka Yabloko actively expressed his political position on the Internet and experienced pressure from the law enforcement due to his pacifist position.
Earlier, a criminal case for the “fake news about the army” had been filed against Mikhail Afanasyev, a member of the Yabloko party in Khakassia and Editor-in-Chief of the Novy Focus online media. Now the journalist is in a pre-trial detention centre.
