Over 5,000 people put their signatures under the petition of the Yabloko party against the war between Russia and Ukraine on the first day of the collection of signatures.
There are many well-known people among the signatories: musicians Alexander Kutikov and Maxim Leonidov, Konstantin Bronzit, director of animated films who was nominated for Oscar twice, writers Alexander Arkhangelsky and Alisa Ganiyeva, journalists Leonid Nikitinsky and Andrei Kolesnikov, Boris Stern, a physicist and editor-in-chief of the Troitsky Variant newspaper, publisher Ivan Limbakh, Merited Actress of the Russian Federation Nina Popova, human rights activist Lev Ponomaryov, economist Yevgeny Gontmakher and many others.
“The lives of dozens of thousands of people and the prospects of our country are under threat. We must do whatever is necessary to prevent escalation. We call on all citizens of Russia to join our simple and understandable demand: no to war! We will do our best to spread the petition and increase the number of signatures. I hope that as many media outlets as possible will write about the collection of signatures, because we all need peace,” Nikolai Rybakov, Yabloko Chairman, commented on the collection of signatures.
The petition runs that “the war with Ukraine that Vladimir Putin has been preparing will bring tragedies to people, destroy families, and take thousands of lives… Any outcome of the war will be a disaster for Russia”.
Starting tomorrow, the collection of signatures will take place not only on the Internet, but also in the regional offices of the Yabloko party. In the regions where anti-COVID restrictions will allow this, Yabloko activists will go on pickets.
