The Sverdlovsk regional branch of the Yabloko party presented candidates who will be nominated by the party for by-elections to the City Duma of Yekaterinburg:
Sergei Loskutov, Chairman of the public movement The Green Front, in electoral district No. 2 (Verkh-Isetsky district) and Alexander Kudelkin, blogger and social activist, in electoral district No. 10 (Leninsky district).
“I am grateful to both Sergei and Alexander for finding the strength and courage in such a difficult time to participate in the elections from a party which opposes to the war with Ukraine and ultimatums to the West, which is against the ban on the Memorial [human rights society], against political repressions, and for an official investigation into the poisoning Alexei Navalny,” Maxim Petlin, Chairman of the regional branch and member of the Yabloko Bureau, said.
The by-elections to the City Duma of Yekaterinburg will be held on 27 March in connection with the early termination of the powers of two deputies: following the results of the September 2021 elections, Sergei Melekhin was elected to the Legislative Assembly of the Sverdlovsk Region, and Nikolai Smirnyagin resigned as a deputy and headed the Academic District of Yekaterinburg.
