The Electoral Commission of the Pskov Region approved all 22 candidates for commission members nominated by the regional branch of the Yabloko party; whereas 13 electoral commission members from Yabloko are appointed for the first time.

On 28 November, the process of nominating candidates for the formation of 22 out of 26 territorial electoral commissions of the Pskov region was completed.

Candidates for appointment to the Electoral Commission of the Pskov Region are nominated by political parties, including the parties represented in the Pskov Regional Assembly.

The Pskov Yabloko has been represented in the regional parliament since 2011. This allows the regional branch of Yabloko to send candidacies for appointment as electoral commissions members with a casting vote at all levels of the regional electoral system.

Members of the territorial electoral commissions who directly organise all municipal elections are appointed every five years. Lev Shlosberg, the leader of the Pskov branch of Yabloko, told about the changes in the Yabloko representation in the regional territorial electoral commissions and their preparation for work in the elections:

“We have already gone through this procedure twice: members of 22 out of 26 electoral commissions are appointed in one term. We discussed the results of the work of members of territorial electoral commissions from Yabloko for the five-year period. Several of our “veterans”, who worked for two terms, asked to replace them. We had questions about the work of some territorial electoral commissions members.

As a result of the work, which lasted about a month, we submitted all 22 candidacies to the Electoral Commission of the region for appointment, whereas 13 people out of 22 were appointed [electoral commission members] for the first time.

Special trainings will be organised for all members of the territorial electoral commissions from Yabloko. We will prepare our representatives for the elections to the maximum extent possible.

The organiser of the study will be the regional branch of the party  and lawyer Elena Mayatnikova, a member of the Electoral Commission from Yabloko with a casting vote, who performed excellently during the previous term of the regional electoral commission and was recommended by us for the next term of office.

In the coming year the Pskov Yabloko team will pay special attention to the training of reserve members of electoral commissions for all the 609 precinct electoral commissions of the Pskov region – the basis of the electoral system,” Lev Shlosberg said.
