Regional groups of the federal list of candidates from the Yabloko party in the elections to the State Duma will be topped by young people under 40. The federal part of the list of Yabloko candidates will consist of one candidate – party Chairman Nikolai Rybakov. The territory of Russia is divided into equal electoral districts so that success of candidates to the Duma depends solely on the effectiveness of their work during the election campaign.

This was announced by Grigory Yavlinsky, Chairman of the Yabloko Federal Political Committee, at the Yabloko pre-election congress. He said that such a decision was made at a meeting of the Federal Political Committee, which took place the day before and ended late at night. There were other proposals for the formation of the federal part of the list of candidates, Yavlinsky said, but the Federal Political Committee voted for the proposed configuration.

According to Grigory Yavlinsky, the list of candidates is made in such a way so that representatives of all the territorial groups have equal opportunities to be elected as deputies if the party overcomes the threashold to the State Duma. Everything will depend on their work in the electoral districts.

“We would like to get away from the topic of the “presidium”. Here is the great presidium, you all are working for us, and then we will take two or three people for this to be deputies. That’s how it should not be done. Now there is no “privileged” class in the party, there is a sole leader who symbolizes the party, and this leader is the Chairman of the party,” Yavlinsky said.

The second important thing, according to Yavlinsky, is the age of the candidates who top the territorial groups, that is, occupy the places that can potentially pass to the Duma is the party overcomes the threashold. “These are exclusively young people. Their average age is less than 40 years,” Grigory Yavlinsky said.

“I believe that the role of the party is to open the future for future generations. We want to form a fundamentally new faction in the State Duma – not from athletes and singers [as Duma is formed of now], but from young people with a good education,” Yavlinsky stressed.

The Chairman of the Federal Political Committee also addressed the voters:

“You should understand, you are not voting for us, you are voting for yourself! These are your children. You cannot make claimы to them that they did something wrong in 1990. True, they don’t have a rich political biography, but it’s good that they don’t. No more reproaches or complaints. We propose to vote for your future, for your children,” Grigory Yavlinsky concluded.

Today the congress will consider the lists of candidates submitted for discussion and vote for their nomination to the State Duma. The names of the approved candidates will be announced tomorrow, 4 July, at the official part of the congress that will be open for journalists and guests.
