Yabloko leader Nikolai Rybakov demanded that the Russian Public Prosecutor General and the Moscow Mayor lift restrictions on street actions
Press Release, 4.02.2021
Nikolai Rybakov wrote to the Public Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation and the Mayor of Moscow demanding that the restrictions on public events be lifted. A number of bans on holding mass events, in particular, sports events, have already been canceled in whole or in part. However, the ban on public events was extended by the Mayor’s Decree of January 21, 2021.
According to the Yabloko leader, the ban, in particular, the one on single pickets is unlawful, since single pickets do not pose an epidemiological threat to the extent compared with permitted sports events.
“Maintaining the ban on holding public events violates the constitutional right of Russian citizens, is politically motivated, discriminatory and even repressive,” Rybakov said.
Nikolai Rybakov demanded that the Moscow Mayor immediately lift the ban on holding public events in Moscow. The Yabloko leader also demanded that the Public Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation take all measures of the prosecutor’s response to restore the constitutional rights of Russian citizens; release all unreasonably detained citizens at the mass events that took place in Moscow on 23 and 31 January and 2 February, 2021, and terminate the administrative and the criminal proceedings in relation to them.
