YABLOKO’s Viktor Sheinis, an author of the Russian Constitution and YABLOKO Political Committee member, criticized the idea proposed by some young activists from St.Petersburg envisaging amending Article 13 of the Constitution and the introduction of the “state ideology” concept into the Russian fundamental law.
“This is one of the most sinister of initiatives we could get. We know very well how the state has been implanting its “most advanced” ideology. And we all know well what it turned out in the end. A campaign launched by the State Duma obviously stands behind this initiative of St. Petersburg youth, ” Sheinis said in his TV interview to the Russian News Service.
Activists of the Youth House of St. Petersburg with the support of the Municipal Committee for Youth Policy launched an initiative to amend Article 13 of the Constitution proposing to introduce the concept of “state ideology” into it. According to these young people, the lack of such an ideology is dividing the nation and allows to “influence young people from abroad”, as well as to plant “false values”.
