He fought for freedom of his homeland!
Grigory Yavlinsky on the anniversary of the death of politician Alexander Yakovlev
Press Release, 19.10.2020
15 years ago, Alexander Yakovlev died – a politician, a real front-line soldier during WW2, an honest and decent person.
Alexander Nikolayevich Yakovlev was a completely unique figure in Russian politics. Unlike many of those who were engaged in perestroika, those who had real power in the late Soviet years, Yakovlev understood what he was doing. He fought for freedom of his homeland!
And even after he left practical politics, Yakovlev continued to do the most important thing – he was preparing Russia for the post-Bolshevik future. With all his works, his research into archives and those colossal sacrifices that our country suffered, Academician Yakovlev demonstrated the essence of our past. Once a Bolshevik and a communist himself, he showed the whole of Russia what we had to give up: the deadly legacy of Bolshevism. However, unfortunately, in the past 15 years that Alexander Nikolayevich Yakovlev is not with us, Russia has traveled in the opposite direction.
May the memory to the great citizen of our country live forever!
