Press Release, 2.09.2020
Yabloko Chairman Nikolai Rybakov appealed to Alexander Gusev, Governor of the Voronezh Region, in connection with the illegal felling of trees in the Severny Les (the Northern Forest) forest park, the only large forest area in the Northern residential area of Voronezh. In recent months, trees were cut on the territory of the forest, and at the end of August there was a clash between local residents and unidentified persons who installed a fence around the park.
Yabloko Chairman Nikolai Rybakov drew the Governor’s attention to the fact that the park belongs to the category of natural monuments located in a specially protected area of regional significance. He also noted that the further fate of the natural object and the incident that occurred caused concern for the residents of the city, environmentalists and public figures.
“I am asking you to take the situation under your personal control and visit the Severny Les forest park shortly so that to assess the current situation. In addition, I am asking you to take measures to restore damaged and lost green territories, organise supervision over the improvement of this territory and observance of the regime of a specially protected natural area,” Rybakov urged.
