The Krasnoyarsk branch of Yabloko to challenge in court the withdrawal of the party list from the elections of Zheleznogorsk City Council
Press Release, 28.08.2020
The Zheleznogorsk City Court, having considered the claim from the LDPR party against the electoral commission of the municipality, ruled to cancel the registration of the list of Yabloko in the elections to the Zheleznogorsk City Council that are due on September 13. The court agreed with the arguments of LDPR about violations allegedly committed by Yabloko in nominating candidates.
However, neither the territorial electoral commission nor the regional branch of Yabloko recognised the claims and intend to prove the case in a court of a higher instance, basing on the federal legislation and the charter of the Yabloko party. Two appeals – from the electoral commission as the administrative defendant and the Yabloko party as the interested person – were filed with the Krasnoyarsk Regional Court. The case will be heard on September 2 by the administrative board of the regional court.
Activists and the regional branch of the Yabloko party emphasise that regardless of the outcome of the consideration of the complaints, candidates from Zheleznogorsk branch of Yabloko, running in single-mandate constituencies, are continuing their campaign.
“The claim of the candidates from the LDPR party, which acted in the role of guardians of the law, in fact, aims to get rid of strong rivals who rely on the protest electorate and to provide an advantage for their candidates. The LDPR party filed similar claims in several cities of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, trying to remove, besides Yabloko, candidates from a number of other parties from the elections, however, the ruling United Russia party was not among them,” notes the activists of the Krasnoyarsk branch of Yabloko.
It should be noted that on August 3, the electoral commission of the Zheleznogorsk municipality registered a list of candidates nominated by the Krasnoyarsk branch of Yabloko for participation in the elections to the Council of Deputies of the sixth convocation. The team of candidates from the party is topped by Oleg Komissarov, Chairman of the regional branch. Other candidates are Valery Golovkin, professional teacher and manager, Alexey Kormich, head of the department of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise Mining and Chemical Plant, Yulia Koval, associate professor of the Department of Engineering and Technical Expertise and Forensic Science of the Siberian Fire and Rescue Academy and five more candidates well-known and respected in the city.
On August 20, two advertising banners of Yabloko candidates running for the district council were stolen in the Berezovsky district, the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
