Yabloko candidates will compete for deputy mandates in more than 150 election campaigns in 36 regions

Press Release, 24.08.2020

Representatives of the Yabloko party will take part in more than 150 different level election campaigns in 36 constituent entities of the Russian Federation; 660 candidates from the party will compete for deputy mandates.

The party list of candidates was registered in the elections of only one regional legislative assembly – the Kostroma Regional Duma, where the party is exempt from collection of signatures in favour of its registration as it has a deputy mandate in this regional parliament.

Yabloko’s single-mandate candidates will take part in by-elections to the Legislative Assembly of the Altai Territory, the Leningrad and Tver Regions, and the Saratov Regional Duma.

Yabloko candidates lists and candidates in single-mandate constituencies were registered in the elections of 15 regional centres: Astrakhan, Birobidzhan, Vladimir, Voronezh, Ivanov, Kaluga, Kostroma, Nizhny Novgorod, Novosibirsk, Orenburg, Orel, Rostov-on-Don, Smolensk, Tomsk and Cheboksary. Also, one Yabloko candidate for the State Duma in the Yaroslavl single-mandate constituency No. 194 participates in the elections.

“The authorities of almost all regions are obviously feeling uncertain and are simply afraid of our candidates. Hence, there are so many refusals in registration – on far-fetched pretexts, using dirty technologies and illegal know-how of filtering candidates. It is quite typical that we were denied participation in a number of particularly visible campaigns where we had clear chances of success. The most illustrative example is the election of the Governor of the Arkhangelsk region [where Yabloko had a candidate from the Stop-Shies movement fighting against creation of dumps of garbage imported to the region from Moscow], the parliaments of the Chelyabinsk, Ivanovo, Kurgan and Ryazan regions. This demonstrates the weakness of the government, which knows that it will lose even in a relatively fair fight,” Yabloko Chairman Nikolai Rybakov said.

“However, we believe that we must fight for every town in the country, for every municipal district. It is a matter of principle! The trust of every citizen is important to us, and every voice in support of the alternative that we propose,” the Yabloko leader added.
