Press Release, 10.08.2020
Activists of the Kemerovo branch of Yabloko held a series of single pickets against the repressive policy of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, as well as in support of the protest of the residents of Khabarovsk when the authorities arrested the governor of the region who won the election against the United Russia candidate.
“Alexander Lukashenko, the current President of Belarus, has been in power for 26 years, and ran for this post for the sixth time, arresting two opposition candidates (Sergei Tikhanovsky and Viktor Babariko). Lukashenko’s main rival is housewife Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, who replaced her arrested husband, Sergei Tikhanovsky. The popularity of Svetlana Tikhanovskaya in Belarus has grown within days and months,” Vitaly Ilyin, Chairman of the Kemerovo branch of Yabloko said.
“Protests in Khabarovsk continue to this day. Political changes in Russia can begin if the voice of Khabarovsk and its residents is supported throughout Russia,” the leader of the regional branch of the party noted.
It should be noted that the Yabloko Bureau adopted a special statement in connection with the situation in Khabarovsk “The Yabloko Party Stands for People’s Rule and Federalism”.
