Authorities try to demolish children’s theatre in Sochi
Press Release, November 14, 2013
The authorities try to demolish a children’s theatre and a theatre school “Igra”(Play) in the Lazarevskoye settlement, Sochi. Several months ago the court resolved that the building of the theatre was constructed illegally.
YABLOKO leader Sergei Mitrokhin sent an appeal to the Mayor of Sochi Anatoly Pakhomov with the demand to take part in solving the conflict and arrive at the place where the demolition takes place. The parents of the kids and the teachers at the theatre are very concerned about the situation.
The court enforcement officers were supposed to start the eviction of the theatre on November 14, but they didn’t come.
According to the court decision, the theatre had to be evicted on October 24.
The local residents have no doubt that the theatre building won’t be demolished. But the theatre will be evicted and the premises will be used for commercial purposes.
The theatre has been working for several years without any budget financing. According to head of the Sochi branch of YABLOKO Olga Noskovets, the city was defaced by the mass construction works. The children’s theatre couldn’t spoil the sight of Sochi, but only be its decoration.
