Press Release, 3.07.2019
The Committee on Education, Culture, Sport and Youth Policy of the Legislative Assembly of Karelia supported two bills by Emilia Slabunova, MP of the parliament of Karelia and Chair of the Yabloko party.
The parliamentarians voted for Emilia Slabunova’s appeal to Vladimir Medinsky, Russian Minister of Culture, about improving the quality of restoration works of cultural heritage sites. Slabunova proposed to annually index the cost of restoration works of historical and cultural monuments. Yet the cost has been calculated as of the rates of 1984, and then it is indexed to the 2012 price level.
Karelian deputies also supported Slabunova’s bill on the right of the family to teach all children in one school. Slabunova proposed to give families with two or more children the right to send their youngest child to the same school where the elder studies.
Earlier, members of the committee had already voted for this bill submitted by the Yabloko Chairperson, after which the document was sent to the Council of Lawmakers at the Federal Assembly, which rejected the initiative.
The final voting for the bills will finally take place at the plenary session of the Karelian parliament on 12 July. If approved, the initiative of Yabloko will be sent to the State Duma for consideration.
