Meeting in memory of murdered journalist Yuri Shchekochikhin was held in Moscow

On Tuesday, 2 July, a meeting in memory of Yuri Shchekochikhin, journalist and deputy of the State Duma from the Yabloko party, was held in Moscow. Yuri Shchekochikhin died 16 years ago, on 3 July, 2003, after been poisoned with an unidentified substance . The cause of death was undetermined, but there are no doubts that he was murdered for his parliamentary and journalistic activities.
Nadezhda Azhgikhina, Yuri Shchekochikhin’s widow, his sons Konstantin and Dmitry, leaders of Yabloko Grigory Yavlinsky and Emilia Slabunova, Nikolai Rybakov, Boris Vishnevsky, Dmitry Muratov, publisher of Novaya Gazeta, and many other people came to the Pokrovskiye Vorota cultural center so that to remember Yuri Shchekochikhin.
The documentary “The Burden of Unfulfilled” (directed by Yevgenia Golovnya and Yulia Mavrina) was demonstrated to the public. In the final part of the meeting, Lada Negrul read her poems and sang songs.
