Press release, 09.10.2016
On October 7, a ceremony commemorating Anna Politkovskaya was held in St. Petersburg. YABLOKO’s deputies of the city parliament Boris Vishnevsky and Mikhail Amosov as well as Deputy Chair of the party Nikolai Rybakov participated in the memorial action.
About a hundred people came to light candelas and brought flowers with them. They also brought placards quoting Anna Politkovskaya.
“Only those who committed the crime were punished. But the murder will be solved only when the society learns the names of those who ordered and organised the crime. After ten years we still do not know those people,” Boris Vishnevsky noted.
The participants of the action recollected the life principles of Anna Politkovskaya, her professional qualities and her style of work.
“Her articles on the events in Chechnya were not the only reason for her murder. She looked at the problems of the Chechen Republic from the point of view of the development of the country. Anna Politkovskaya was looking for the answer how to improve the situation in Russia in general, not only in Chechnya,” Mikhail Amosov stated.
