Ex Mayor of Petrozavodsk Galina Shirshina appealed her dismissal [from the post of the Mayor] in the Supreme Court of Russia.
“The cassation appeal against a decision of the Petrozavodsk City Court and on the appellate ruling of the Supreme Court of Karelia was sent to the Supreme Court of Russia by mail,” she said. According Shirshina, the Supreme Court can adopt the decision on the case within two or three months. She also pointed out that earlier the Supreme Court of Karelia had refused to consider the cassation appeal.
“The complaint demands to cancel the decision of the Petrozavodsk City Court and the appellate ruling of the Supreme Court of the Republic, and send the case for retrial to the court of first instance,” Shirshina said also adding that she considered her dismissal unlawful.
The Press Service of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation informed TASS that so far they had no information that Shirshina’s complaint had been received by the court.
The deputies of the Petrozavodsk City Council dismissed Shirshina [from the post of Petrozavodsk Mayor] on 25 December 2015 for dereliction of duty for three months or more. Head of Karelia Alexander Khudilainen agreed on her resignation. In January 2016 the Petrozavodsk City Court confirmed the legality of the Shirshina dismissal. She then appealed against her dismissal in the Supreme Court of Karelia, which had previously left the decision of first instance in force, and rejected her cassation appeal.
On 8 September 2013, self-nominated candidate Galina Shirshina was elected Mayor of Petrozavodsk for five years with the support of the regional branch of the YABLOKO party. She obtained 41.9 per cent of the vote leaving behind then Mayor Nikolay Levin (from the ruling United Russia party). Now Shirshina is Adviser to YABLOKO Chair.
