The staff of the Novaya Gazeta newspaper gives YABLOKO the majority in the new parliament
On 8 July, the Novaya Gazeta newspaper held a public opinion poll among the paper staff on the upcoming elections. Journalists were choosing by means of secret ballot the party list they would support, if the election took place next Sunday.
In general 52 out of total 142 people of the staff voted, thus the turnout was 36.6 per cent, with 6 per cent of spoiled “ballots”. The remaining votes were distributed as follows: YABLOKO received 51 per cent, The [entrepreneurs’] Party of Growth – 20 per cent, [the ruling] United Russia – 10 per cent, PARNAS – 9 per cent, Fair Russia and the Communist Party – 4 per cent each, and LDPR – 2 per cent.
Taking into account the proportional distribution of mandates [in the parliament] YABLOKO could count on a stable majority, especially in the case of forming a joint fraction with PARNAS.
Simultaneously, Novaya Gazeta held the same poll among its readers in the a web-site. Over 11,000 people took part in the poll by 9 July, the votes were distributed as follows: 46 per cent of the audience of the newspaper would support YABLOKO if the election took place next Sunday, 18 per cent – PARNAS, 13 per cent – “the other party”, 10 per cent – the Communist Party, 4 per cent The Party of Growth and United Russia, 3 per cent – LDPR and 2 per cent – Fair Russia.
The opposition in the parliament formed by readers would be even more powerful than by that formed by the paper staff, taking into account the proportional distribution of mandates between YABLOKO and PARANS, it would control over 65 per cent of the vote in the Duma and could be a constitutional majority.
Novaya Gazeta will repeat the polls in September, a week before the election, so that to find out the campaign of which party was considered the most efficient by the readers.
