At today’s press conference in Volgograd, Grigory Yavlinsky, the founder of the Russian Democratic Party YABLOKO and member of YABLOKO’s Political Committee, said that the region had too many problems to be solved in the near future so that avoid large-scale social explosion. As reported by “Visota 102”, the politician in particular pointed out that this [large-scale social explosion] may be triggered by the misappropriation of the regional budget: recreation facilities had been leased for mass media [seminars] instead of repairing roads, also mass media had been paid out an unprecedented amount out of the budget – 380 million roubles a year on the coverage of the work of the Governor and the Government of the region.
“If there is work, then there is no need to spend such an amount of money so that the population would better see it. How insignificant and microscopic the Governor’s work should be, so that large funds should be spent on media to cover it ?” Grigory Yavlinsky noted.
In addition, one of the leaders of the party indicated that the scandalous facts had been taking place in the Volgograd Region, due to the failure of the local authorities to solve the housing and utilities sector problems, the problems of roads, medicine, planting of trees and environment. Also founder of YABLOKO Grigory Yavlinsky expressed his surprise by the election campaign the party of power had been holding in Volgograd. According to him, for many years no one had hampered the [ruling] United Russia [party] to restore order in the region, but now the candidates to the [regional] parliament for some reason decided, as the politician put it, according to their statements on the billboards all over the city, to shift their responsibility [for the failure] onto someone else. In particular, he was surprised slogans and accusations of the contenders for the regional parliament on the lack of an anti-crisis program in Volgograd, absence of roads, etc.
It should be noted that the purpose of Grigory Yavlinsky’s visit to Volgograd was to learn about the political and social situation in the region, as well as to present YABLOKO’s candidates for deputies and heads of administrations in the elections on September 8 and setting tasks to the regional party branch on the solution of the problems in the Volgograd region .
