YABLOKO demands that Communist Party explain the use of quotation marks when mentioning political repressions victims
Chair of the Penza branch of YABLOKO Sergei Oleynik demanded that the head of the Communist Party regional branch Georgy Kamnev should apologise for mentioning the political repressions victims where the word “victims” was intentionally put into quotation marks.
On September 9, 2015, the local branch of the Communist Party (CPRF) illegally installed a bust to Joseph Stalin in the city centre outside the party office despite the protest of the residents. YABLOKO leader Sergei Mitrokhin forwarded an appeal to the Prosecutor’s Office demanding to demolish the bust. The Mayor’s Office also demands that the monument should be removed. However, the Communist party ignore the demands.
Head of the CPRF local branch Georgy Kamnev used quotation marks when describing the political repressions victims in his public statement on the Communist Party official web page. “I would like to clarify if the monument to the “victims” of political repressions, which is situated in Moscovskaya Street several tens of meters away from the Government building, has been authorised,” runs the statement on behalf of Georgy Kamnev.
YABLOKO claims such address to the people who had faced Stalin’s repressions is offensive and demands explanation.
