Today in Kaliningrad, at around 4 p.m. local time, Anton Gendrikson, Yabloko’s candidate for the State Duma and the Kaliningrad Region Legislative Assembly, was detained. He managed to report that he had been taken to the police station for the Leningradsky District, and that he was being accused of “displaying extremist symbols” (Article 20.3 of the Code of Administrative Offences).

Update. Late in the evening of 23 July, the Leningradsky District Court of Kaliningrad found Anton Gendrikson guilty under Article 20.3 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Russian Federation (“displaying extremist symbols”) and sentenced him to ten days’ administrative detention. According to lawyer Roman Morozov, the case had arisen from the distribution of the Facebook and Instagram logos without indicating that they belonged to Meta, a company recognised in Russia as extremist and banned. The ruling can be appealed within ten days.

What exactly had prompted the administrative case is not yet known. A lawyer has gone to see Anton Gendrikson.

Anton Gendrikson is a civic activist and entrepreneur, and is third on the region-wide part of Yabloko’s list of candidates for the regional parliament elections. The Kaliningrad Region Electoral Commission certified the list on 18 July. Gendrikson is also on the party’s federal list of candidates for the State Duma of the 9th convocation, which was nominated at Yabloko’s Congress in late June.

It should be noted that twelve party members have been subjected to administrative liability for “displaying extremist symbols” (Article 20.3 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Russian Federation), a punishment which carries with it the loss of the right to stand in elections for a year.

They are: party Chairman Nikolai Rybakov; deputies of the legislative assemblies of constituent entities of the Russian Federation Alexander Shishlov and Olga Shtannikova (St. Petersburg), Emilia Slabunova (Republic of Karelia) and Artur Gaiduk (the Pskov Region); municipal-level deputies Dmitry Rybakov (Petrozavodsk City Council) and Tatyana Pasman (Pskov City Duma); deputy chairs of regional party branches Yelena Ivanova (the Novgorod Region) and Svetlana Vasilkova (e thPskov Region); party members Anton Kostryukov (Staraya Russa, the Novgorod Region) and Tatyana Fedorova (Pskov); and environmentalist Vladislav Arkhipov from Kirov.
