Yabloko invites everyone to its actions of writing letters to political prisoners, which take place in various cities across Russia (in the Yabloko party offices) every month. Anyone can sign a postcard or write a letter to a person who has faced pressure and persecution for their beliefs, that is, for political reasons.
Why is it important to take part in these actions? A person who finds themselves in detention loses their physical connection with the information space and stops receiving not only current news about what is happening, but also the ordinary tokens of attention they were used to. Time on the other side of the bars passes more slowly than it does in freedom, and, as a result, political prisoners often feel forgotten. Showing attention, expressing support, and saying a few words about yourself, even if you do not know the person, is important and valuable help for someone who has ended up in detention. It is sometimes even more important than material things, although prisoners may need those too, and you will be able to find out more about that in the correspondence that develops.
If you are unable to come to a Yabloko office, please write a letter using our instructions.
The actions will be held in Yabloko’s regional branches all over Russia from 22 May through to 31 May. The list of the regional branches, addresses and dates are published here and will be updated.
