Yabloko invites all to the premiere of Alexander Gnezdilov’s video production of “The Remains of the Day” based on the Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel
Press Release, 3.04.2026

On 7 April, the YouTube channel “Say Yes to Peace!” will host the premiere of The Remains of the Day, a production directed by Alexander Gnezdilov based on the novel of the same name by Kazuo Ishiguro.
Unlike the well-known 1993 film, which focused primarily on the protagonist’s personal fate, this stage version places the novel’s historical and socio-political narrative at its centre. The creators of the production examine the problem of conformism and personal responsibility for the developments in the world around us.
The story of Stevens, an impeccable English butler, is an account of blind devotion that leads the protagonist to turn a blind eye to his employer’s political manoeuvres on the eve of World War II. Sheltering behind a screen of professional duty, pious tradition, and impeccable manners, he abandons his own critical judgement and becomes an unwitting accomplice in the looming historical catastrophe.
The Remains of the Day was written in 1989 and awarded the Booker Prize. Today it is duly regarded as one of the most important works of the twentieth century and a classic of contemporary British literature. The novel was translated into Russian by Vladimir Skorodenko.
Alexander Gnezdilov is a theatre director and a member of the Political Committee of the Yabloko party.
The premiere of The Remains of the Day on the YouTube channel “Say Yes to Peace!” will take place on 7 April at 19:00. Everyone is welcome!
