Press Release, 17.02.2026

The Yabloko party invites all to the launch of a documentary “And the Ship Sails On” about Yuri Shchekochikhin, the legendary Russian investigative journalist, politician, and member of the Yabloko faction in the State Duma (1995–2003). Yuri Shchekochikhin was murdered in 2003. The film will be launched at the party’s office in Moscow on 3 March.
Yuri Shchekochikhin believed that every individual, and society as a whole, could become better, and that the young would surely succeed in this. Many of his friends and like-minded associates shared this belief. What do those born in the twenty-first century think about this today? In the documentary “And the Ship Sails On”, dedicated to Yuri Shchekochikhin, colleagues and friends of the politician speak about this, as do students and participants in Yabloko’s youth discussions.
The screenplay was written by journalist and writer Nadezhda Azhgikhina, and the film was directed by Yulia Mavrina.
The screening will be attended by the Chair of the Yabloko Political Committee, Grigory Yavlinsky, poet Yevgeny Bunimovich, chief director and artistic director of the Russian Academic Youth Theatre (RAMT) Alexei Borodin, as well as writers, journalists, and friends and students of Shchekochikhin.
The premiere will take place at the Yabloko party office (Pyatnitskaya Street 31/2, Moscow) on 3 March. The event begins at 19:00.
Admission is by prior registration.
