The Tomsk regional branch of the party nominated 16 people on the list and five candidates in single-mandate constituencies for elections to Tomsk City Duma at the conference of the regional Yabloko branch which took place on 19 July. Another five candidates are standing for election as deputies to the Seversk City Duma. The electoral campaign in the region will be conducted under the slogan “For Peace and Freedom! For the Ceasefire Agreement!”.
It should be noted that three Yabloko deputies were elected to the current composition of Tomsk City Duma – Vasily Yeremin, David Avetyan and Yevgeny Kaverzin. The Yabloko faction spoke from the City Duma tribune with the party-wide agenda about the necessity of a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, and also dealt with the city’s environmental problems and criticised the local self-government reform.
In May 2024, Yabloko deputy Yevgeny Kaverzin was unlawfully stripped of his mandate. Kaverzin had defended the interests of Tomsk residents before the regional waste management operator.
Elections in Tomsk and Seversk will take place on 14 September.
