First Deputy Chair of the Yabloko Gender Faction Olga Radayeva participated part in the roundtable of the Raisa Maximovna Gorbacheva Club project, which was held at the Gorbachev Foundation in June. The starting point for the discussion was the books by women’s movement historian Irina Yukina “Russian Feminism as a Challenge to Modernity” (2007) and “From Ladies-Patronesses to Activists of Women’s Sections” (2024).
The participants in the discussion discussed the specifics of the historical path of the Russian women’s movement in the pre-revolutionary and Soviet stages, the achievements and problems of the Russian women’s movement at the end of the 20th century, and how they influence the women’s movement today. The issue of continuity of the women’s movement in Russia was of great interest to all who took part in the event: how the traditions of women-activists of the Russian women’s movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries – “lady patronesses” and philanthropists, women-activists fighting for “equal rights” and feminists, activists of “women’s sections” and “women’s councils” – are manifest today, how women and the issues they raised influenced the country’s policies at different stages. Olga Radayeva spoke about the goals and objectives of the Gender Faction of the Yabloko party and the faction’s activities to protect women’s rights and advance women in politics within the framework of this discussion.
The discussion was attended by Nadezhda Azhgikhina, journalist and writer, Olga Zdravomyslova, sociologist and Vice President of the Raisa Maximovna Gorbacheva Club under the Gorbachev Foundation, Olga Radaeva, First Deputy Chair of the Gender faction of the Yabloko party, Anna Temkina, sociologist and independent researcher, St. Petersburg, Yelena Zdravomyslova, sociologist, European University in St. Petersburg, Yana Zhilyaeva, journalist, Forbes Magazine, yelena Rozhdestvenskaya, sociologist, National Research University of the Higher School of Economics, Moscow, Kogershyn Sagiyeva, journalist, Maria Mikhailova, philologist, Lomonosov Moscow State University, Lyubov Shtyleva, teacher, lecturer and activist of the women’s movement, Anna Gordeyeva-Adamchuk, student of the Russian State University for the Humanities, and Anastasia Martynova, student of the Russian State University for the Humanities.
