An initiative group of 11 people, including Yabloko party leaders Nikolai Rybakov and Grigory Yavlinsky, has sent an appeal to the Moscow City Duma’s Commission on Monumental Art with a proposal to install a memorial sign at the site of Boris Nemtsov’s death.
The initiative group proposes that a memorial sign in the form of a plaque or sculptural composition should be placed in the southern part of the Greater Moskvoretsky Bridge, where Boris Nemtsov was murdered. The initiators are prepared to announce an open competition for designs and coordinate its results with Moskomarchitektura (the Moscow City Architecture Committee) and city structures. The project is planned to be financed through public donations via a special fund or account.
The appeal emphasises that this initiative is supported by many Muscovites — more than 8,000 people have signed the corresponding petition on the сhange.org platform. Among the signatories are human rights defender Alla Gerber, animator Garry Bardin, politicians and public figures Andrei Nechayev, Boris Nadezhdin, Arkady Murashev, Sergei Stankevich, Mikhail Schneider, Viktor Yaroshenko, and Georgy Satarov.
It should be noted that on 27 February 2025, on the tenth anniversary of the politician’s murder, a petition demanding the installation of a memorial sign was submitted to the Moscow City Duma — the body authorised to make decisions about creating memorials.
