Moscow Yabloko demands to open a criminal case on the attack on environmental activist Ivan Shchekin in the Moscow region

The Regional Bureau of Moscow Yabloko sent an appeal to the chief of the Moscow region police Viktor Ishchenko. The appeal was signed by Maxim Kruglov, Deputy Chair of the Moscow Yabloko.
On 5 November, ” Ivan Shchekin, environmental activist and inspector of the non-profit partnership “National Committee for Environmental Safety”, saw workers cutting down trees in the Romashkinsky forest in the Odintsovo district of the Moscow region. The activist asked the workers to show documents allowing for the cutting of trees. The workers attacked Shchekin and beat him using shovels.
An ambulance took Ivan Shchekin to the emergency station, where he was diagnosed with broken fingers and a head injury. Shchekin said that his head “was simply smashed”. The activist contacted the police.
The Moscow branch of Yabloko notes in its appeal to the head of the regional police Viktor Ishchenko that the case of the attack on the civil activist has not been opened yet. The party asks the police chief to take control of the investigation into Ivan Shchekin’s statement.
The park where activist Ivan Shchekin saw cutting of trees is part of the Romashkovsky forest. It was opened to the public four years ago.
