On 20 August, 2024, the Tushinsky District Court of Moscow received lawsuits demanding the cancellation of the decisions of the Territorial Electoral Commission on the registration of six candidates nominated by the Regional Branch of the Yabloko Party in the city of Moscow for the snap elections of deputies of the Council of Deputies of the Kurkino District.
A conference [in the Moscow branch of Yabloko] which nominated candidates for elections was held on 2 August, 2024. After it, each of the nominated candidates submitted a full set of properly executed documents to the electoral commission, collected the required number of valid signatures of Kurkino residents [in favour of the registration in the race] and was registered by the electoral commission.
The claims are based on the alleged absence of secret ballot results in the minutes of the conference of the regional branch of the party. The voting results for each of the candidates are actually present, there are no violations of the form or content of the corresponding protocol. The conference was held in full compliance with the law and the party By-Laws in the presence of a representative of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation.
The Moscow branch of the Yabloko party considers these lawsuits to be a deliberately organised campaign to put pressure on the candidates nominated by the party.
Yabloko participates in the elections under the slogan “For Peace and Freedom!”, during the collection of signatures, our candidates received the support of residents and have a good chance of winning. We consider the process initiated to cancel the registration, deprive Yabloko candidates of the opportunity to fully participate in the elections, and prevent them from being on the ballot to be politically motivated.
We demand to stop obstructing Yabloko’s participation in the elections. We call for ensuring both the competitiveness of the elections and the free expression of the will of citizens on [the voting days of] 6-8 September, 2024.
