On the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Great Terror, on 5 August, the Yabloko delegation will go to the Sandarmokh, Karelia, the place of mass burial of victims of Stalin’s political terror. Yabloko ativists will lay flowers at the memorial cemetery and honour the memory of the victims of Soviet repression. Yabloko invites all its supporters to join our trip.
On 4 August, members and supporters of Yabloko from Moscow and St. Petersburg will go to Petrozavodsk by train, and from there to Sandarmokh by bus (organised by the party). The return trip will also be coordinated.
In 1997 the site of mass graves in Sandarmokh was discovered by Memorial activists, in particular by Karelian historian Yuri Dmitriev (who is now imprisoned). More than 6,000 Soviet political prisoners executed from 1937 to 1938 were buried there.
Applications for participation are accepted until 15 July inclusive to the yabloko@yabloko.ru address. We will contact the applicants to discuss details and coordinate the purchase of tickets.
