Yabloko nominated Alexander Yefimov, a member of the Federal Bureau of the party and an entrepreneur, as a candidate from the Rostov region in the by-elections for a State Duma deputy. Single-mandate electoral district No. 152 includes the Aksai district and the city of Novocherkassk. The decision was adopted at a meeting of the Federal Bureau of the party on 27 June. The Yabloko candidate will conduct his election campaign under the slogan “For Peace and Freedom! For the ceasefire agreement!”.
The family history of Alexander Yefimov connects him with Novocherkassk: the politician’s parents graduated from the Novocherkassk Polytechnic Institute, his father was a participant in the events of 1962 – the strike of workers at the Electric Locomotive Plant and other townspeople in response to raising of food prices.
“I expect to conduct a campaign that will unite all citizens of the Rostov region who share our position on the need to stop the bloodshed. This is the most important thing now that needs to be talked about in elections at any level and what needs to be demanded from politicians,” Alexander Yefimov commented on his nomination. “Novocherkassk is a students’ city. And if the conflict is not stopped, today’s students will end up in the trenches instead of building a peaceful life,” he added.
By-elections of State Duma deputies will be held on a single voting day, 8 September.
