The Novosibirsk Yabloko is against the killing of stray dogs
Statement by the regional party branch, 6.05.2024
The regional branch of the Yabloko party, on the basis of moral principles and principles of humanity, opposes the killing of captured stray dogs as a way to solve the problem of animals without owners.
In April, a survey was conducted on the government services portal “On the need to introduce additional measures into regional legislation to solve the problem of animals without owners in the Novosibirsk region”. One of the possible survey answers proposed to kill captured stray dogs if “the dog has not found a new owner within one month”.
The Federal Law “On the Responsible Treatment of Animals and on Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Russian Federation” N 498-FZ, dated 27 December, 2018, approves the principles of treatment of animals, including: treating animals as beings capable of experiencing emotions and physical suffering; human responsibility for the fate of an animal; instilling in the population a moral and humane attitude towards animals. Killing captured dogs violates these principles.
We believe that the current TSVR (trap, sterilisation, vaccination and return) strategy is an achievement for our society that must be preserved.
We advocate a broad public discussion on solving the problem of animals without owners in the Novosibirsk region.
