Yabloko will hold a federal environmental peacekeeping campaign “The Peace Bell on Earth Day”
Press Release, 19.04.2024
On 22 April, Earth Day is celebrated around the world. Its goal is to draw attention to environmental and nature issues. Yabloko in Moscow and the Russian regions will hold environmental and peacekeeping actions dedicated to the International Earth Day: party activists will plant trees during the week, hold community cleanups, and discuss the regional environmental agenda. In addition, the Yabloko members will ring the Peace Bell in a number of cities in our country: this symbolic action will be a reminder of the need for peace on Earth. Yabloko invites everyone to join the actions in Moscow and the Russian regions.
On 22 April, 2009, the UN declared this day as Mother Earth Day. On this day, various events, actions, lectures on the importance of environmental protection, cleaning up areas of garbage, planting trees and other environmental initiatives are held. Earth Day reminds us of the importance of caring for our planet and encourages every person to take part in preserving its beauty and wealth.
The Earth Day Peace Bell is a symbolic activity that is performed in different countries around the world to celebrate Earth Day. People gather in squares, parks or other public places to ring bells as a sign of peace. This action is a reminder of the importance of cooperation and solidarity in taking action to preserve our planet for future generations. The first Peace Bell was installed in 1954 at the UN headquarters in New York. It was cast in Japan from coins donated by children from all continents; orders, medals and other honorary signs of people from many countries were also fused into it. The inscription on the Bell runs: “Long live universal peace throughout the world”. Peace bells are installed in many cities around the world. There are such bells in several Russian cities, in particular, in the Academician Sakharov Park in St. Petersburg and on the territory of the Museum named after Nicholas Roerich in Novosibirsk.
For Earth Day, Yabloko released a series of silk scarves with the party’s symbols, which can be used not only as an accessory, but also as packaging material.
Russian citizens can find out any information about ordering and delivery of scarves by calling +7 (925) 3655083 or in Telegram (Denis Papin).
