A round table in memory of Viktor Sheinis was held at the Institute of Scientific Information on Social Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences

A round table “Viktor Leonidovich Sheinis: Academic, Politician, and Person” was held at the Institute of Scientific Information on Social Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences past week.
The event was dedicated to the memory of Viktor Leonidovich Sheinis (1931–2023), Doctor of Economics, People’s Deputy of the RSFSR and a member of the Constitutional Commission of the Congress of People’s Deputies of the RSFSR (1990–1993), a deputy of the State Duma (1993–1999) and a member of the Political Committee of Yabloko. The participants of the round table spoke about the great contribution of Viktor Sheinis to the creation of the Constitution of the Russian Federation and the electoral legislation of Russia, his scientific works as an economist, historian and political scientist, and his participation in the political life of the country.
Viktor Sheinis’ colleagues from the Institute of Scientific Information on Social Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Supreme Council of the RSFSR, the State Duma, the Democratic Russia movement and the Yabloko party participated in the event.
Chairman of the Yabloko party Nikolai Rybakov, deputies of the Moscow and St. Petersburg legislative assemblies Sergei Mitrokhin and Boris Vishnevsky, as well as the Chair of the Yabloko Gender Faction Galina Mikhaleva spoke about the role of Viktor Sheinis in the creation and development of Yabloko – first an electoral bloc, then a public association and a political party.
The widow of Viktor Leonidovich, Alla Nazimova, made a final speech about Sheinis as a person.
