The Supreme Court of Yakutia upheld the verdict of the City Court of Yakutsk, which sentenced the leader of Yabloko in Yakutia, Anatoly Nogovitsyn, to a 200,000 roubles fine under the criminal article on “discrediting the army” (Article 280.3, Part 1, of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
The reason for initiating a criminal case was a video message on the politician’s Telegram channel, in which he commented on the partial mobilisation announced in September 2022.
Yabloko launched fundraising for the payment of this large fine for the leader of the Yabloko branch in Yakutia.
In March 2023, another regional leader of Yabloko, the Chairman of the Yabloko branch in Kamchatka, Vladimir Yefimov, was convicted under an article on “discrediting the army”. He will also have to pay a fine of 200,000 roubles. The collected funds should cover the payment for the lawyer.
In May of this year, Nikolai Yegorov, Chairman of the Vologda branch of Yabloko, was charged under the criminal article on “discrediting the army”. He is currently under bail.
Since April 2022, journalist Mikhail Afanasyev, a member of the Yabloko party of their Khakassia, has been in the pre-trial detention centre on the charges of spreading fake news about the army. The trial on his case has already begun in the City Court of Abakan.
