On 26 April, on the 37th anniversary of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the Yabloko party will host a press conference “Chernobyl: a Monument to Human Madness”, as well as a screening of the film “The Space of Chernobyl”.

The events will be held as part of the Year of Alexei Yablokov. Alexei Yablokov, (1933-2017), an outstanding Russian scientist and ecologist and one of the leaders of the Yabloko party, turns 90 in 2023. Alexei Yablokov is the author of the book “Chernobyl: the Consequences of the Catastrophe for Nature and Man”, the most complete study on this topic, published in many countries of the world.

The press conference will be attended by:

Dilbar Klado, journalist, author of the film “The Space of Chernobyl”, Chairman of the Presidium of the Alexei Yablokov Foundation.

Andrei Ozharovsky, engineer-physicist, expert of the Radioactive Waste Safety Programme. He will talk about the radioactive contamination sites he discovered near the Rosatom (the Russian state corporation for nuclear energy) enterprises in Moscow, the Moscow region, the Novosibirsk region, the Kirov region and the Sverdlovsk region.

Andrei Frolov, a member of the operational group of the General Staff of the USSR Armed Forces for the elimination of the consequences of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, Chairman of the Organising Committee “Yablokov-90”.

Sergei Mitrokhin, a Yabloko MP in the Moscow City Duma, a member of the Federal Political Committee of the Yabloko Party.

Andrei Talevlin, an environmentalist, lawyer, and a member of the Federal Bureau of the Yabloko Party.

The press conference will be held at the office of the Yabloko party (at the address: Pyatnitskaya 31, building 2, the Tretyakovskaya or Novouznetskaya metro stations) on 26 April.

The screening of the film is scheduled for 16:00, and the conference will start at 17:00.
