Dmitry Kushpita, Chairman of the regional branch of the Yabloko party in the Vladimir region and director of School No. 40 in Vladimir, spoke to the deputies of the regional Legislative Assembly and called them not to introduce a course of elementary military training to schools, and also advocated the need to return direct mayoral elections in the region.
Kushpita spoke at the Legislative Assembly as part of the annual provision of a parliamentary rostrum to the leaders of regional branches of political parties that are not part of representative bodies of power. According to the regulations, in such cases the deputies of the Assembly neither discuss the speeches of the speakers, nor ask them questions.
According to Dmitry Kushpita, introduction of the elementary military training course in schools from the next academic year will not increase the defence capability of Russia and will not contribute to the development of military-patriotic education, but will only increase the degree of violence among students. He called on the deputies to come up with a legislative initiative to prevent the return of the elementary military training to the school curriculum.
The leader of the Vladimir branch of Yabloko also recalled the need to return to direct elections of heads of cities and regions, criticising the procedure for appointing them on the example appointing Dmitry Naumov Mayor of Vladimir.
