On 21 September, the day of the birth of Russian statehood, a competition for the post of Mayor will be held in Novgorod. Anna Cherepanova, Chairwoman of the Novgorod branch of the Yabloko party, will take part in it.
Anna Cherepanova presented her vision of social and economic development of Novgorod as a modern open European city in the “A City of Peace and Freedom” programme.
Direct elections of the mayor, independent and strong local self-government, financial independence, uniform rules for interaction with business, and a comfortable urban environment are the key points of her programme. The most important issue is the creation of favorable conditions for the life of citizens, contributing to the successful implementation of their plans and ideas.
The Yabloko party stands for nationwide elections of heads of local self-government, and states that no contests or competitions can replace elections as direct expression of the will of citizens. Nevertheless, Anna Cherepanova decided to participate in the competition for the post, in order to propose a programme for the future of Novgorod, considering it her duty to the people of Novgorod. She is the only one presenting a meaningful democratic alternative to candidates from the Kremlin parties in the competition.
