YABLOKO Deputy Chair Nikolai Rybakov’s powerful speech on Rossiya 1 TV Channel
06.04.2016
Nikolai Rybakov: First of all. All the war crimes must be investigated and the guilty must be punished. End of story. There is nothing to discuss here. I believe, it would have been better if the investigation was carried out by the international institutions and, by all means, the Russian Federation must participate in it. The investigation must be acknowledged by the world community.
Anchorwoman: And is there any chance that the war crimes committed by Kyiv will be considered by the Hague Tribunal?
Nikolai Rybakov: Yes, of course, there is. All the war crimes must be investigated. In the second place, we are standing in front of the static picture to the film called “ No statute of limitations” (“Bez sroka davnosti”). In my lifetime I was also the author of a film with a similar name – “No statue of limitations”. Therefore I think I have the right to touch this issue once again. The film was devoted to the crimes committed by Russia in Chechnya. It was dedicated to the mopping-up in Novye Aldi [a settlement near the city of Grozny, the capital of Chechnya] in 2000, when 84 civilians including Russian children and Russian women were murdered. As you have already said, no one bore responsibility for this, no one was charged with it. Besides, our country have acknowledged [the crimes], the only serviceman was put on the wanted list…
Anchorwoman: Nikolai, we have already discussed this issue, haven’t we?
Nikolai Rybakov: Yes, but you have not finished. Olga, there was such a noise in the studio. May I say something? We must show the example ourselves and investigate the war crimes ourselves, so that to prevent lawlessness…
Anchorwoman: So, once again we owe something to somebody?
Nikolai Rybakov: We owe it to ourselves, to the citizens of our country. The guilty must not stay unpunished in our own country. Another thing that I would like to say is that the situation in Donbass is our serious geopolitical mistake. The reason why it is our mistake has been explained by Strelkov and Girkin perfectly. One can read about it. What shall we do now? We must seek implementation of the Minsk agreements, we must withdraw all the armed bandits from this territory and we must save the people who are in Donbass at the moment. Because people are dying while we are shouting in the studio. I want to say something, maybe after these words you will never invite me to participate in your TV programme again. Olga, you come from Volgograd, I come from Leningrad. Unfortunately, our cities know a lot about a war, may be more than other cities, and they know what outcome may take place. I think that all of us, me as a YABLOKO’s representative and today YABLOKO is the party of peace in Russia, and you as media representatives must do our best to prevent deaths and protect people from the danger they are facing every moment. We, the YABLOKO party, have a number of proposals on how to do it. I think that the Russian television must win back its prestige and make decent films to gain respect.
