Why do Russia and Ukraine need Israel’s experience?
Grigory Yavlinsky’s interview to the Youtube channel Zhivoy Gvozd, 18.01.2025, published on 21.01.2025
Soon it will be three (!) years since military actions have been going on between Russia and Ukraine. These events were approaching and eventually became inevitable long before February 2022. Politically, it was obvious, but humanly it was impossible to imagine. And it still doesn’t fit in my head – victims, destruction, crippled lives… People in both countries, perhaps, do not understand rationally, but they increasingly feel the loss of the future, and the majority wants the military actions to finally end. This is no longer a question of territories or restoring justice, it is about stopping the killings and preserving the future: people do not want war.
In this sense, the events in the Middle East can serve as an illustrative example for Russia and Ukraine. Certainly, the nature and essence of conflicts are different, the motives of the parties are different and, accordingly, the resolution paths and final results will also be different. But look how, for the sake of saving people’s lives in the extremely difficult Middle Eastern realities, it was possible to reach a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, and earlier between Israel and Hezbollah.
True, a ceasefire is not a settlement, it is not a result. But it is the first and inevitable condition for finding a political solution to the conflict. Using the example of the Middle East, we see that this step is implemented without any long-term guarantees, without territorial or strategic concessions. Only one thing is needed – the desire to save people’s lives.

Once again, Grigory Yavlinsky spoke on the Zhivoy Gvozd Youtube channel about the ceasefire and how the example of agreements in the Middle East is useful for Russia and Ukraine and what the US administration is doing in this context.
