“You feel that you are not alone in this hardship.” Yabloko regional branches held actions of writing letters to political prisoners

Actions in support of political prisoners were held in the regional offices of the Yabloko party past week. Hundreds of letters and postcards with words of support so needed by people deprived of their freedom are sent to their recipients across the country.

Many political prisoners write in their response letters that Yabloko and civil activists are doing very important work.

“I had to go through a lot of difficult moments during this time and I don’t know how I would have coped without your support! I received over a hundred letters (postcards, photographs, and drawings) with words of support and good wishes from different cities of Russia, as well as neighbouring countries!” Yabloko activists in Tatarstan cite the words from the response letter of political prisoner Andrey Boyarshinov.

Anna Cherepanova, head of the Yabloko party faction in the Novgorod City Duma, called on the Russian President to issue a decree on the completion of partial mobilisation. The faction’s appeal, signed by MP Cherepanova, was sent to Vladimir Putin on 30 November.

On 15 December the Yabloko Party University will host a lecture “On the Prospects of the Russian Economy” by Igor Nikolayev, Director of the Institute for Strategic Analysis of the company “Financial and Accounting Consultants”, Doctor of Economics, and a member of the Public Constitutional Council. The City Court of St.Petersburg did not cancel the fine to the Chairman of the Yabloko branch in the Pushkinsky district of the city for “discrediting the army”

On 28 November, the St. Petersburg City Court upheld the decision of the Pushkinsky District Court against Alexander Makhankov, the Chairman of the Yabloko branch in the Pushkinsky district, who had been found guilty of “discrediting the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation”. Makhankov was fined 30,000 roubles.

Yabloko in Udmurtia proposed to the State Council to reduce the budget expenditure on officials in favour of acquiring housing for orphans and providing palliative care

Iya Boronina, Chair of the Yabloko branch in Udmurtia, proposed amendments to the regional budget for 2023 and for the planning period of 2024 and 2025. The draft budget was adopted at a meeting of the State Council of the Republic on 29 November. The leader of the Yabloko branch in Udmurtia prepared and submitted to the Council the proposals of Yabloko as a legislative initiative proposing  redistribution of funds in favour of orphans, palliative care and provision of safety in educational institutions.

The construction of a medical centre with a maternity hospital in the Primorsky district of St.Petersburg, which Yabloko sought, will begin in 2023

The project of a multifunctional medical centre for 1,250 beds with a maternity hospital in the Primorsky district of St.Petersburg was included in the special investment programme. As of the end of the year, a contract for cadastral works for construction was already signed. This information was given in the response of the administration of the Primorsky district to the inquiry of the Yabloko deputy of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg Boris Vishnevsky.

Current and former Moscow municipal deputies opened public receptions to help Muscovites

On 26 November Yabloko launched the Public Reception “Our Moscow” project. Yabloko party deputies of different convocations of the Moscow City Duma and municipal councils of Moscow districts, as well as candidates for deputies from Yabloko and civil activists.

According to the results of the September municipal elections in Moscow, the Yabloko party received an average of 16% of the vote in Moscow, but only four candidates from the party managed to get elected in the conditions of electronic voting – Vasily Dikarev, Anatoly Zakharov, Olga Lapshina and Vladimir Shomin.

The Yabloko faction in the Novgorod City Duma voted against the city budget for 2023

On 25 November, the Novgorod City Duma considered in the first reading the draft city budget for 2023 and for the planning period of 2024 and 2025. The total amount of planned budget revenues for 2023 will amount to 6.867 billion roubles, and expenditures for 7.127 billion roubles. The deficit will amount to 260 million roubles. The faction of the Yabloko party voted against the adoption of the draft budget.

Police submitted to court the criminal case against the leader of the Yabloko branch in Yakutia

On 8 December, the Yakutsk City Court will start considering a criminal case against Anatoly Nogovitsyn, the leader of the Yabloko branch in Yakutia, who is accused of “discrediting the army” (Article 280.3 Part 1 of the Criminal Code).

On 24 November, deputies of the Assembly of Deputies of the Pustoshkinsky District of the Pskov Region, by a majority of votes, prematurely terminated the powers of Svetlana Vasilkova, head of the Pustoshkinsky District and a member of the Yabloko party.

The decision of the Assembly of Deputies was adopted by the votes of deputies from the [pro-government] United Russia and the LDPR parties.

Svetlana Vasilkova became the head of the district in 2019 in direct elections, through a difficult struggle, having received an absolute majority of votes. The decision of the deputies is a direct disrespect for the will of voters and the whole society. The United Russia party has once again shown that it is ready to trample on any expression of the will of the people which does not suit the ruling regime.

“Do not harbor malice”. Yabloko hosted a screening of the film “The Solovki Power. Evidence and Documents” about the prisoners of one of the largest concentration camps during the Stalin’s period

On 22 November 22, Yabloko held in its Moscow office a screening and discussion of Marina Goldovskaya’s 1988 documentary film “The Solovki Power. Evidence and Documents” devoted to the prisoners of the Solovki concentration camp, the archipelago where political prisoners – “enemies of the people” – were exiled to forced labour camps and a prison during Stalin’s Great Terror period in 1920-1930s. Yuri Brodsky, a Russian photographer and writer, author of the book “Solovki. The Labyrinth of Transformations, spoke about the creation of the film. The moderator of the discussion was Nadezhda Azhgikhina, journalist, writer, and director of PEN Moscow.

Maxim Kruglov, head of the Yabloko party faction in the Moscow City Duma, following the example of the Yabloko deputies in the Karelian parliament, was one of the initiators of the appeal of the Moscow City Duma deputies to President Vladimir Putin with a call to back up his words about the end of the mobilisation by a corresponding decree. The draft appeal was submitted for consideration to the Duma.

Civic activist Maria Volokh arrested for 20 days for an action against escalation of nuclear conflict

The Presnensky District Court of Moscow found Maria Volokh, a former candidate for municipal deputies of Moscow from the Yabloko party, guilty of a repeated violation of the established procedure for organising or holding a public event and appointed her 20 days of administrative arrest under Article 20.2, Part 8 of the Code of Administrative Offenses.

The Chelyabinsk branch of Yabloko demands from the regional Legislative Assembly to return the possibility of holding a discussion when approving the budget

Yaroslav Shcherbakov, Chairman of the Chelyabinsk regional branch of the Yabloko party, sent a proposal to each deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Chelyabinsk region to amend the Regulations of the Legislative Assembly so that to eliminate violations that prevent public participation in the meetings of the Assembly. On 24 November, the Legislative Assembly will consider the budget of the Chelyabinsk region for 2023, which will take place without public hearings and “outsiders”.

A lecture by Boris Kolonitsky on the history of the February 1917 revolution will be held at the Yabloko Party University

On 6 December, the Yabloko Party University will hold a lecture by Boris Kolonitsky “February? Bourgeois? Democratic? Revolution?” about the history of the revolution in Russia in February 1917, which preceded the October 1917 coup. The lecture will begin at 18:00 (Moscow time). The lecturer is Boris Kolonitsky, professor at the European University at St. Petersburg and leading researcher at the St. Petersburg Institute of History of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The Budget of St. Petersburg: expenses on the key problems of citizens are reduced, but new expenses on the special military operation emerged

The Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg adopted in the third reading the draft law of St. Petersburg “On the budget of St. Petersburg for 2023 and the planning period of 2024 and 2025”.

The Yabloko faction voted against the budget, and, like the Bureau of the regional branch of Yabloko om St.Petersburg, considers the draft budget unsatisfactory for many reasons.

On 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, an action of writing letters to women political prisoners will be held at the Yabloko office in Novgorod.

In Russia, violence on behalf of the state has taken on a monstrous scale: women are beaten at rallies, humiliated during interrogations, arrested and kept under torture, subjected to punitive psychiatric methods for their beliefs, political activities, and having the courage to disagree with the state policies.
