Imprisonment sentence to environmentalist Evgeny Vitishko is discrediting the Olympics

Earlier today the Krasnodar Regional Court has dismissed the complaint submitted by lawyers of environmental activist Evgeny Vitishko. This means that the verdict of the court of a lower instance in coming into force. This verdict envisages a three-year imprisonment term for Vitishko due to his criticism of Governor of the Krasnodar Territory. Earlier Vitishko had been sentenced to three years of probation for making inscriptions on the fence unlawfully erected in the nature reserve. Now probation has been replaced by a real imprisonment term. Read more »

Mitrokhin tries to stop illegal deprivation of the Third Way’s property

The agents of the Zamoskvoretsky Department of Internal Affairs continued the illegal deprivation of “The Third Way” NGO’s property. They act despite the court decision which states that the eviction is only possible after another premises for the NGO are provided. Migrant workers helped the police. YABLOKO leader Sergei Mitrokhin arrived to prevent the illegal eviction of “The Third Way”.

YABLOKO activist Igor Kharchenko arrested for five days in the Krasnodar region on the eve of the Olympics

Today the Leninsky District Court of Krasnodar arrested YABLOKO activist Igor Kharchenko for five days under Article 19.3 of the Administrative Code (Disobedience to a lawful order of a police officer). The trial was held behind closed doors, and the sentence was made within a few minutes. Igor Kharchenko was not even given word. He was also deprived of a lawyer who would help in defence and was not allowed to attach to a video to the case file. The video demonstrated too well that there was no any “disobedience to a lawful order of a police officer”, and that there had been no reason to detain Kharchenko. Read more »

The authorities of the Krasnodar region launched the Olympics from an arrest of an environmentalist

The YABLOKO party expresses its protest against the arrest of Evgeny Vitishko, civil society activist and well-known environmentalist of the Krasnodar Territory. This morning he has been arrested when leaving the Tuapse branch of the Penitentiary Inspection of the Federal Penitentiary Service of the Krasnodar Territory on suspicion of a petty theft. Later a new ridiculous accusation of swearing at a bus stop was brought against him. Court sentenced Vitishko to 15 days of arrest. Read more »
