Such devotion to yourself, your mission and principles, which you considered to be the most important already in your young days, make me admire you. In memory of Liu Xiaobo: the time will come, and China will be proud of him
Grigory Yavlinsky Facebook post
14.07.2017
Liu Xiaobo certainly did not attend the Nobel Prize ceremony in Oslo. He was in prison. The Chinese authorities did not allow him to receive the prize even through relatives or friends. It is noteworthy that our country neglected the ceremony of awarding Liu Xiaobo the Prize in 2011. However, we were not alone here: in addition to the Russian ambassador, representatives of Afghanistan, Venezuela, Vietnam, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Colombia, Cuba, Morocco, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Sudan, Tunisia and the Philippines did not come to ceremony.

Biography of one of the most experienced politicians in Russia

Photo: Vladimir Lukin at the conference of the Moscow branch of YABLOKO
Today is the anniversary of Vladimir Petrovich Lukin, a man with a unique path in politics. Together with Soviet dissidents, he openly opposed the invasion of Soviet troops to Czechoslovakia in 1968, worked as an Ambassador to the US, was an MP of the State Duma and Russia’s Human Rights Ombudsman, and finally was a co-founder of YABLOKO (actually the name of the party is derived from the names Yavlinsky, Boldyrev, Lukin). He is one of the few democratic politicians in Russia who have always managed not only and not so much to oppose the system as to act as a subtle diplomat, influencing it from within, making it more humane and fair. Today we would like to recall the highlights his political biography. Read more »
