This weekend, December 14-15, the 21st congress of the Yabloko party will be held in Moscow. Yabloko Chairperson, Deputy Chairperons, members of the Federal Political Committee and the Bureau will be elected at the Congress.

The Congress will open on December 14 at 10 a.m. In the first half of the day, political reports and reports on the work done by the party over the four year period will be made by Yabloko Chair Emilia Slabunova and Grigory Yavlinsky, Chairman of the Federal Political Committee of the party, the reports will be followed by a discussion.

Nomination of candidates for party Chair is planned for 5 p.m. At present there are three possible candidates for this post. This is the present party Chair Emilia Slabunova, Deputy Chairman Nikolai Rybakov and the head of the Pskov branch of the party Lev Shlosberg. The Federal Political Committee of Yabloko recommended to the Congress to consider these candidates. However, during the discussion of the issue, delegates may nominate other candidates. The regulations for nominating candidates for Yabloko Chairperson will be adopted at the congress.

The Chair of Yabloko is elected for a term of four years. One person cannot hold this post for more than two terms. Yabloko was headed by its founder Grigory Yavlinsky for two terms, from 2002 (the moment the social movement was transformed into a party) to 2008, and Sergei Mitrokhin also chaired the party for two terms from 2008 to 2015.

After the election of the party Chair, Deputy Chairpersons will be elected. This voting will end the first day of the congress.

On Sunday, December 15, a briefing of the party’s Chairperson and Deputy Chairpersons will be held at 10 a.m., where they will talk about their plans and answer questions from journalists.

The second day of the congress will open at 11 a.m. On this day, elections will be held for members of the Federal Political Committee, the Bureau, the Control and Audit Commission, and the party Arbitration. The Congress will close its work with the adoption of political statements.
